The evolution of the FN 509 Midsize now includes the FN Low Profile Optics Mounting System, allowing users to directly mount over 10 different miniature red dot optics to their concealed carry pistol. This version, known as the FN 509 Midsize MRD, features a four-inch barrel and slide with the optics mounting package. It also has a midsized frame and a standard 15-round capacity, with compatibility for larger capacity FN 509 magazines by using a sleeve. The improved controls on this model make manipulation easier, while the new and improved texturing on the two included backstraps provides better recoil management. Additionally, the new flatter faced trigger allows for a more controllable trigger press and cleaner break. The FN 509M MRD is a semi-automatic, striker-fired pistol chambered in 9mm. It has a polymer frame with a black finish and comes with two 15-round magazines. The pistol does not have a manual safety and features 3-dot sights. It also includes interchangeable backstraps, the FN Optics Mounting System with plate adapters, an ambidextrous slide stop lever, ambidextrous magazine release, and comes with an FN soft case.
